Why it didn't happen
Two years later, India's tech industry was still adding people: NASSCOM projects direct tech-sector employment of about 6 million in FY26, up 2.3%, a net 135,000 jobs. Growth has slowed, and NASSCOM credits part of that to AI-driven productivity, but that is a long way from most junior outsourced coders being 'gone'. The most prominent cut, TCS shedding about 12,000 jobs (2% of staff) in 2025, was mainly mid- and senior-level, and its CEO said it was 'not because of AI'.
